Happy New Year

I don't make resolutions, anymore. Now, I picture snapshots from the coming year--say, I'm visiting a friend or exploring a new place--and then I set about making those pictures real. Knowing, of course, that anything can happen to derail a plan and that I'll be adapting to new realities every day.

But there's something about creating a picture in my mind that offers a more powerful motivation than making a resolution in words. "I will work out more" falls flat. Picturing myself getting up every morning, having a cup of coffee, and hopping on my exercise bike makes me feel as if I'm halfway there.

Wishing you a Happy New Year. May every good thing you envision come true.
